January
I was a sewing mentor for my sister's friend's senior project. She had to design and create a jester costume for a show which she was also stage managing. No easy feat, but she did it! I re-taught her the basics of machine sewing and how to use a pattern.
I also sewed a pair of pajama pants, of which I have no photos because they were a gift.
February
In early 2012 I ran two sewing workshops for Girl Scouts of RI: one on bloomers and the other on 1912-style skirts. The goal was to make enough bloomers and skirts for a relay game at their 100th anniversary celebration. This meant putting my drafting skills to the test because I had to take an adult skirt pattern and re-size several times - we needed skirts to fit plus-size women all the way down to 5 year olds! It was a great success!
Photos belong to GSRI. Borrowed from their FBook page.
Simplicity 2258|Mustard Skirt
This skirt was one of my most successful sewing projects ever. The construction is nearly flawless and it is very wearable.
March
Simplicity 6254 (1965)|Skinny Bow Tie
Made as a gift and for the Sew Weekly Mad Men challenge. It took many more hours that I expected, but the result was pretty cool.
April
McCalls 6435|Sweetheart T-Shirt
A total meh project, but a good learning experience about binding on jersey. Hopefully I'll clean this up in 2013 and wear it, even just once!
June
Collette Macaron|WADDER
I started this dress in January and finally finished it and never wore it. I want to love it, but I hate the fabrics and after this and a Sorbetto I'm pretty sure the sloper they design their patterns off is NOT anything like my body.
Refashion|90s to 40s Thrift Dress
D-Ring Patchwork Belt
July
Vogue 9593|Traveling Shirt
A birthday gift for my Dad, I'd made it the year before and had never put on the pocket, which was the whole point of the shirt. The pattern calls for giant pockets, which conveniently fit a boarding pass, passport, etc. while traveling.
August
McCalls 6514|WADDER
I made the wide leg version of these, and YUCK. I was really hoping for some elegant, drapey pants and they just looked like bad sweatpants. The worst part is having all the gathering in the back waistband. It was choked with fabric!
August
McCalls 6559|Stars n Stripes Maxi Dress
Definite win for worst hair in photo here. The dress is OK for summer because it is a big shapeless rectangle. Nothing flattering, but lots of breeze.
Official Kittyville Hat Pattern|Commissioned Cat Hat
A lesson in pompoms. Or pompons. The jury is still out on that one.

September
Simplicity 5935 (1983)|"Gunne Sax" Dress
Sense and Sensibility Patterns Regency Chemise
The chemise is done and I used it under this dress on Christmas to be a little warmer in our freezing church. The dress is done, with the exception of more lace in the skirt tucks. I ran out and haven't been able to source more. Also the hem is safety pinned...
October
Golden Compass Hood + Tassel Hat|Elven Tassel Hat
A lesson in giant tassels and spelling "tassel".

A Hat Fit For A Boyfriend|Mom's Farm Hat
Christmas gift for my mother.

November
Simplicity 4048|Laura's UFO PJs
These started out as a sewing project to bring me and my sister closer together and build on her home ec sewing education. We shopped for the fabric and pattern. We pinned, she cut out one piece and decide she hated sewing. So it sat, for over a year in a plastic bag on her bookshelf. What better gift than to finish someone's UFO for them AND clear space on their bookshelf? The printed fabric, by the way, is little kittycats all over.
A Hat Fit For A Boyfriend|Dad's Ski Hat
Christmas gift for my dad.

Simplicity 9958|James' Boxers (x5)
Christmas gift for the boyfriend. The most fun I had with a gift project for sure.
Turban|Theatre costume
Kwik Sew 2881|Wrestling Pants
Sorry, no photo yet of these, but they're probably my best work yet on the serger.

That's prettty impressive and I love the map boxers. That is super cute!
ReplyDeleteTOTALLY IMPRESSIVE!! Well done for a year on hiatus! Seriously - you a rock star even when you are taking time off :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow. Shows how much stuff gets done in-between - I had a similar count, thinking I didn't accomplish much this year. *g* I love the kittie hat best. And the October pic looks pretty magical. :)
