To Do Plus Fake Ruby Instructions

What I need to do today:
1. Find checkbook and pay summer tuition. (I finally found it after about 4 hours, on my DVD rack!)
2. Join Self-Stitched-September over at So-Zo.
4. Finish blog updates and figure out giveaway items (yes, the magic word, giveaways).
5. Clean up blogroll.
6. Post about Summer Essentials to-sew

RUBY UPDATE!
Because I can't think of anything more creative to call it. Le sigh.
So some of us are having trouble with directions (myself included) and as I go along I'm going to do a condensed version of their directions in an effort to help y'all out.
1. Cut out pattern pieces, then assemble using tape/staples (it is FAR easier than taping all the sheets together first).
2. Cut out fabric + interfacing.
3. Do darts on back shorts pieces.
4. Take back pocket and fold over the edges the appropriate seam allowance and iron.
5. Stitch top of pocket fold-over.
5. Line up pocket according to guide on pattern. Pin and stitch the remaining sides to the back shorts piece.

Lastly, a little shout out to poor Peter's harem pants over at Male Pattern Boldness, that very few people seem to like. So I present a women's 60s pattern with harem pants. It is not very WWNDW, even if I do always imagine Bess's outfits to be more feminine and costumey, or George as being a Beatles-loving India-inspired girl.
It can be yours for only $8!

  1. I think I'm the only person who actually kind of liked Peter's pants, haha!

Thanks for the little Ruby update. I'm going to give them another go this weekend and see where I can get.

PS - I loooooove your crab fabric. Seriously. It's amazing. And awesome. (I love crabs, if you couldn't tell)

  2. Yeah Summer Essentials! I'm looking forward to that sew-a-long. Sounds fun and easily manageable.

And I hated Peter's harem pants, but I like those girl harem pants. I'd rock those.

  3. The Ruby instructions are crazy in places. Why they use numbered dots to represent obvious seams, I don't know.

And the fit: the legs are huge, at least sz40 on me. I've spent the last week fitting the damn things >( Finally last night I got a fit I like.

The waistband seems much better--basted it on, fit looks good, will be sewing that soon. I never want to sew another BS.com pattern.

  4. Where was this pattern when I was making 7 pair of harem pants a month ago?

  5. Yep! Louisville, KY! I do hope you move here that would be awesommmmmmmmmme. None of my friends sew and I'd kill to have a sewing buddy!!!! We could even take quilt lessons together! Am I getting ahead of myself? Haha :)

Thanks for the book recommendation. Oddly enough, I rented that book a few weeks ago. I guess I completely overlooked the tent pattern! I'll have to check it out again!

    Cheers,
    Ellie

  6. I look forward to seeing your finished Ruby shorts! I just joined Burda Style and have yet to sew anything from one of their patterns. I just posted a link to a really cool 1970s-era issue of Burda magazine that's for sale on Etsy on my blog (I'm not the seller). Let's just say that the cover model is wearing an outrageous plaid jacket with contrasting yellow yokes, hood and cuffs. It is SO amazing!!!
